Tavistock U16s 12pts

Crediton U16s 34 pts

THIS was a hard fought game played in, at times, atrocious conditions. From the start it became clear that the visitors' defence would be difficult to break down.

After both sides conceded possession to each other, the visitors drove over for the first try. Although Tavistock were getting possession they were finding it difficult to find a way through. Good ground was made by George Harold but Tavistock were unable to capitalise and the visitors added another three points with a penalty.

The home side now enjoyed a period of sustained pressure and following several penalties in the visitors' 22, Tom Simmons reacted quickly to dive on a loose ball for Tavistock's opening score. The visitors replied with another try following a drive by the forwards.

In the second half a scintillating run by Jack Bond from his own 22 and driving runs from Mark Friend and Ewan McQueen saw the home side threaten but couldn't find the killer pass. Following a penalty Tavistock drove for the line and from the resulting ruck scrum half Niall Murphy fed Dan Oner who powered through for a try. Elliot Northmore converted.

Crediton were then awarded a try — although Tavistock claimed the referee failed to see that their player had grounded a loose ball behind the try line before an opponent dropped on it. Tavistock fought hard to get back into the match but Crediton's superior handling enabled them to run in two more tries.
