FOR 30 years the people of Bere Ferrers have been taking to the water for the annual watersports event to raise funds for St Andrew's Church and this year's sizzling temperatures made the conditions ideal for messing about on the river.

One of the highlights of the year in the village, there was plenty to take part in and to entertain the crowds including the mudlarks and crabbing competitions, lots of stalls, motor cycle display, circus skills for the children, a barbecue, bar and refreshments.

Alongside the carnival atmosphere the competition heated up between the six teams with the last challenge of the greasy pole proving great fun for everyone.

The winners were the 'Smurf's Up' team, joint second were the 'Ofsted Inspectors' and 'Members Only' and third were the 'White Arabs.'

Winner of the children's crab catching competitions was Zac Coyte, and James Lloyd caught the largest crab in the under sevens class.

A raffle was well supported and in the evening a hog roast took over from the barbecue with local bands performing and an impressive fireworks display.
