THE bulk of the peninsula's tourist traffic now comes down the M5 and then the A30 from Exeter. There are signs to Okehampton from as far back as the motorway, but none whatsoever to Tavistock, so Tavistock is missing out on a lot of business.
At the very least we need a big brown sign on the A30 pointing out where we are. I would suggest something along the line of:
'A386 Tavistock, capital of Dartmoor, Ancient Market Town, Lydford Gorge, Brent Tor Historic Church, Burrator Reservoir, Meadowlands Leisurepool, Morwellham Quay Victorian Museum.'
One proper sign on the A30 would make a big difference to this town's prosperity. Much more sense than wasting all this money covering Tavistock with Big Brother signs about asthma that no-one is going to take any notice of.
Tavistock town centre looks as if it has been vandalised with all these new signs — it is visual pollution!
