TAVISTOCK Tennis Club completed a full programme of matches in the league last week. The juniors had two good wins under the new system of scoring. In the seniors results were a little indifferent with the men?s A team finding it tough going in division 1.

Seniors: Men?s A team lost 3-6 at home against Plymstock A. Simon Thomas/Bernard Mowle v their 1st pair; 0-2 sets: v 2nd pair; 1-2. Ray Hinton/Sean Jefferson v their 1st pair; 2-0: v 2nd pair; 0-2.

B team won 8-2 away against Yelverton A. David Martin/Chris Hill v their 1st pair; 2-1: v 2nd pair; 2-1. Owen Locker/Phil Harbottle v their 1st pair; 2-0: v 2nd pair 2-0.

C team won 6-3 away against Torpoint A. Damian Heard/Eirian Jones v their 1st pair; 2-1: v 2nd pair; 2-0. John Jackson/Peter Rogers v their 1st pair; 2-0: v 2nd pair;0-2. Eirian and Peter both in their first match for the club.

D team won 7-2 away against Ivybridge E. Mike Jefferies/Paddy Shephard v their 1st pair; 6-2, 6-4: v 2nd pair; 6-3, 4-6, 2-6. David Isaac/Bill Sparks v their 1st pair; 6-4, 7-6 (7-3): v 2nd pair; 6-4, 6-4.

Ladies? A team lost 4-5 away against Plymstock. Annie Jefferies/Di Kersey v their 1st pair; 0-2: v 2nd pair 2-0. Tric Locker/Tori Cunningham v their 1st pair; 0-2: v 2nd pair; 2-1.

B team lost 0-8 at home against St Budeaux B. Team: Tric Mowle/Sue Parsons and Sara Whyman/Melody Mason.

C team won 6-2 at home against Mannamead C who could only field one pair so forfeiting four individual matches. Anne Bruce/Sue Whitman v 1st pair 2-0: v 2nd pair w/o 2-0. Gaynor Pollard/Michell Broderick (in her first match for the Club) v their 1st pair; 0-2; v 2nd pair w/o 2-0.

Juniors second team won 44-33 away against Hill Lane A. Ashley Rice v their first player; 6-2, 6-1. Stephen Richardson/James Osborne v their 1st pair; 7-6, 3-6. Stephen v their 2nd player; 6-3, 6-2. Ashley/James v their 2nd pair; 6-3, 6-3.

Third team won 44-30 at home against Mannamead A. All Tavistock players were in their first match, played well and were much younger than the opposition. George Batt was outstanding. The club is hosting a series of trials and training sessions on Saturdays at 5pm for ?Team West Devon? as part of the Devon Youth Games.

This is for boys and girls in Year 5 or below, primary school. Any youngsters interested please come along accompanied by an adult and report to the coach, Tania Belcher.
