TEAM manager Shane Wonnacott was reluctant to accept victory as his Tavistock Athletic Club juniors swept into an almost unassailable lead in the fourth Sportshall meeting at Dawlish last Sunday.
Starting the day with a 400-point cushion at the head of the table, a marvellous turnout and some excellent individual performances saw that lead stretch to almost 900 points.
But Shane said he did not want to get complacent: ?We need to come here for the last meeting in March and make sure that we don?t let this one slip out of our hands.?
It was an excellent day for Tavistock junior athletes with 43 taking part, a stunning team performance which netted almost 1,000 points, 12 first places and 14 club records smashed.
The leaderboard sees Tavistock with a total of 2,941 points, followed by North Devon with 2,089. Exeter, last year?s winners, are in third with 1,952 points.

The final meeting is at Dawlish on March 7.
l Martin Exley, the newly elected cross country manager, is hoping to emulate this junior Sportshall success in cross country over the next few years.
He is looking to build a strong team of juniors and seniors to compete against other clubs in the region. He has his mind set on the forthcoming Westward League meeting which takes place this Saturday in Paignton.
He and some of his cross country team-mates are set to win individual acclaim in this season?s competition: Martin is second in his M40 age group for the series and Adam Holland, Alex Richards and Louise Elsworth are well positioned to take medals in the overall individual results for the series.
The final meeting, to be held in Exmouth in March, will determine the outcome.
Martin was in action on the road on Sunday at the Exmouth Harriers Fulfords 5 race. He finished in 11th in 27m 50s and was second M40: Mike Lewis also represented the club and finished 52nd, being the first in his M55 age group.
