North/Okes U14s 29

Launceston U14s 8

THE first half was an evenly matched game although Launceston had an 8-0 lead at half time.

North/Okes brought on Liam Michel into the number eight position and Dan Fogerty out on the wing. The extra weight in the pack was noticeable and allowed Ben Sharp clean ball. Back row player Will Bedford tackled everything and was all over the park and along with the rest of the team, who dominated the second half.

Charlie Goldsworthy went over in the corner for a try and Ollie Francis went under the post.

North/Okes were back in the game and Connor Stevens had a lovely break at outside centre proving too strong for his opposite number and when the ball went wide to Foggy, he touched down to score. A further try from Ben Sharp sealed the win due to an all round team effort.

Okehampton U11s 19

Launceston U11s 7

THIS was a blood and thunder local derby that saw both sides battle it out in wet conditions. Oke were ultimately victorious for the second time this season against a Launceston side that are reigning Cornish age group champions.

No quarter was asked or given in a first half that saw Oke open the scoring after some lively attacking salvos. Jack Ogbourne with a direct line of running opened the scoring for the hosts, Corey Holliday converting. Despite having most of the possession, due in no large part to a dominant scrummage, Oke failed to extend their lead and Launceston levelled the scores before the break after a loose defensive kick allowed a run in through some lacklustre defence.

In the second half Oke were back on the boil, and they sealed victory with two further scores. Leading scorers Greg Daniel and Leon Horne grabbed the tries, Corey Holliday added a conversion. The whole squad was awarded man of the match after this terrific team display.

Tavistock U10s 5

Newton Abbot U10s 20

TAVISTOCK attacked from the word go and spent most of the half pressing Newton Abbot back. In wet and windy conditions they were rewarded with a try by Tom Pearson in the dying seconds after tremendous work from Olly Noy Scott, Jack Smyly and Lochlan Fulton.

After changes at half time Tavistock lost momentum which gave Newton Abbot the advantage to press home for the win but great tackling by Brymoor Workman and good solid commitment from Christian Wilson and Morgan Turnock helped the team. Joe Burbage was the Tavistock player of the match.

THE second game showed a reverse of fortune for Tavistock, with the team digging deep and getting a win. Jacob Staig and Archie Trevethan both played well and strong play by player of the match John Lord and Jack Smyly and some great runs from Jude White and Zac Gorton which gave the team the lift they needed.  Lochlan, Brymoor and Jude went on to score the tries to secure the win.

Okehampton U10s 10

Launceston U10s 35

ON a wet and windy day it took Oke a while to get into their stride but when they did, one hard tackle followed another, especially from Daniel Turney and Dai Chi Budiman. Holding the ever advancing Launceston their perseverance was rewarded by a try down the right wing from George Dickinson. This was followed by a try from Dai Chi. Launceston continued to play some fine rugby, tying Oke up in their own half, with constant tackles and superior rucking. This forced Oke into some basic errors and allowed Launceston to begin to dominate the match for a short period. Oke though, to their credit, continued to put in much effort, particularly the aggressive tackling of Kai Middleton in the second half, which held Launceston up on several occasions.

OKEHAMPTON looked a different team for the second match, most of which took place in torrential rain. Oke spread the ball well and more players got into scoring positions, evading the Launceston tackles. It was pleasing to see so many of the team get onto the score sheet - James (2), Nathan (2), Dai Chi, George, Imogen, Daniel and player of the match Kai.

Tavistock RFC U9s 20

Newton Abbot U9s 35

THE final score belying the effort and much improved tackling and ruck play by the Tavistock team since their last encounter with the well drilled Newton Abbot side.

Using the down hill advantage Newton Abbott dominated the possession in the first half keeping the ball alive despite some strong tackling from Tavistock and finding the gaps in the home defence to run in three tries to nil at half time.

The second half saw Tavistock up their game and started to move the ball about themselves with increased confidence, resulting in scoring opportunities for Harry Edwards and Henry Varndell-Dawes. Two superb swerving runs from Harry Edwards and Louis Peake created two more tries. A fairly equal second half saw both teams playing some good schoolboy rugby with fiercely contested rucks and some strong mauls from both sides. New recruits Oscar Campbell and Nicholas Buckeridge- Hobbs acquitted themselves well on their debuts for Tavistock. There were strong performances from scrum-halves Harry Edwards and James Kenyon.

Oke U8s 28 tries

Launceston U8s 25 tries

THIS was a fast-paced match and within a minute of the whistle blowing Launceston scored a try, but Okehampton fought back instantly to reply.

A pattern evolved where Oke would push forward and score, then Launceston would follow suit and score. The weather turned and became wet and windy but it did not put the players off and they continued tagging the opposition well and passing the ball whenever it was required.   Edward Luke was quick and used his pace to weave in and out of the opposition side, as did Jacob Smith who used his speed to score seven tries for the Okes. Tom Chapman was on fine form and scored six tries.

Jay Jenkins proved his value when he tagged a Launceston player at a vital time, on a lone run to prevent the player from scoring. Charlie Collins, Lewis Parker and  Matthew Pillborough made good runs through the defence. Dylan Watling and Dillon Nicholas scored important tries, as did Oliver Johns, who scored four superb tries, while James Fishleigh also scored two.

 North/Okes U7s 7

Launceston U7s 9

WET conditions made it slippery, making handing that much harder. The North/Okes team was captained by Isaac. Try scorers were Indie 2 , Aedan and Jeremy but player of the match in his first game was Josh who scored three tries. The second game was much harder due to the conditions but well done to Holly, Alex and Finley who played superbly.

Tavistock U7s 8 tries

Newton Abbot U7s 8 tries.

TAVISTOCK immediately took the game to Newton Abbot and went in at half time leading 5-2 in tries thanks to some excellent team play from the boys.

The second half was different with Tavistock fielding some new players, Newton Abbot got firmly back into the game and at full time it ended equal.  The coaches decided to play winning try but such was the competitive nature of the game that neither team could find a breakthrough.  Ollie put in a captain's performance for Tavistock scoring five times, Dillan  Tommy  and Jonathan also scored.
