TAMAR and Tavy Gig Club had eight teams competing at Rock Regatta, including two Under 14 junior teams. The juniors had to row out from Daymer Bay, across the River Camel and back. Despite the heat, the teenagers keep their cool, rowing hard and putting on the style throughout the race.
Rowing at 1, Miles Eastugh, 2, Drew Mortimore, 3, Charlie Fethney, 4, Amber Freindship, 5, Caitlin Haynes-Parry, 6, Alice Clutterbuck, the team really put on a show of how to row coming in second from a strong field beating local teams that have practiced on this water all season. Their depth and skill out shone plenty of other clubs.
Boat two loaned by Caradon gig club had a fantastic new and upcoming team some had only rowed a few times with the skill of David Walker and Megan Haynes-Parry at strokes, giving them a solid fifth place. Making their racing debut for the club were Vicky Fethney, Fen Estaugh, Rosie Lloyd and Tara Twine. Excellent results and the first race of the season! Both coxes Bill Stacey-Norris and Caroyln Dawe were so proud of the juniors for their spirit and sense of fun.
Tamar and Tavy are getting a name for junior rowing being able to field two or more U14 teams at regattas. Why not join - Contact [email protected]">[email protected] and join the fun.
Also representing the club were the ladies' A and B teams, mens' A and B and vets (over 40) ladies and men. All teams rowed well and hard in hot but beautiful conditions. The course went out to the mouth of the river Camel and back, with coxes trying to avoid clashing of oars around the tight buoy turns. The day finished with a Novelty Race, involving a sprint down the beach and swopping seats mid race.
