THIS month saw 18 jujitsu students from the Tavistock and Launceston clubs go all out in front of a grading panel headed by sensei Umberto Bergonzini, a third degree black belt, sensei Robert Curtis, first degree black belt and sempai Ian Lawson, first kyu.
For Patrick Semple, Matthew Semple, Daniel Miller and Redley Kennard it was the first time and although nervous they performed extremely well, passing and achieving the next level, eighth kyu for their yellow belt.
Kevin Semple, Stewart Mead, Charles Challis, Joe Lindsey, and Luke Handscomb were promoted to seventh Kyu, orange belt. Angela Bowden, John Nolan, Tim Clarkson, Tom Bury, Charles Turner, Christopher Turner and Yasmina Maslen were promoted to sixth kyu, green belt one tab. Melanie Green and James Byworth were promoted to fifth kyu green belt, two tabs.
Umberto said: 'The grading panel was extremely pleased by the performance and character demonstrated by everyone, beginners as well as more experienced students. Well done to everyone.'
