LAST Saturday Josh Bush (16), from Okehampton College, entered an indoor athletics combined events competition at Cardiff University in the National Indoor Athletics Centre.

This was the first Grand Prix event of the season and was organised by Welsh Athletics and UWIC (University of Wales Institute Cardiff).

Despite normally competing as an U17 he found on arriving that he would be competing with U20s and adults as he was the only U17. This involved jumping hurdles at U20 height and throwing a shot put of 6kg.

He did well in all events and was not put off by the challenges and threw the shot just 20cm short of his personal best despite it being 1kg heavier.

Overall he came fifth in the event out of 11 competitors.
