YOUNG kart racer Jordan Williams will be hoping to maintain his form from last year when he takes part in the first of three qualifiers for the British Championships this weekend.

Eleven year-old Jordan, from Milton Abbot, sets off for Grantham, in Lincolnshire this weekend, and will compete at tracks in Wigan and Kent later in the year to try and secure his place at the national finals.

Jordan achieved a double championship win last year in the cadet class by winning at both the South West's premier clubs at Dunkerswell Kart Club, near Honiton and Clay Pigeon Kart Club, near Dorchester.

He also won a third championship as overall club champion of all classes at Dunkerswell with the highest points score. His successful 2001 season was capped with the award of junior driver of the year at Dunkerswell. Jordan races in the cadet class where karts can reach speeds of up to 60mph.

This season has already begun at national club circuits and Jordan has established himself alongside the championship-seeded drivers, having finished in the top six in each of the first three races.
