TAVISTOCK'S World Cup champion Heather Fell wasn't the only Tavistock athlete to enjoy success at Millfied in Somerset this weekend. Jordan Channon, aged nine, was invited to Millfield by Pentathlon GB to represent his school Tavistock Community Primary in a biathlon after finishing in the top eight in his age group (year five) last November. Saturday's event provided an opportunity for young athletes  like Jordan to compete on the same stage as the world class athletes including Olympic champions who were competing at Millfield over the weekend in search of their place at the Beijing Olympics. Jordan started the day well finishing seventh out of 13 boys in the 50 metre swim. He then took the opportunity to watch some of the top male pentathletes from all over the world. It was an amazing day for Jordan being able to watch these Olympic hopefuls battle it out in shooting, fencing, swimming, show jumping and running to try to win a place to represent their country in Beijing. In the evening Jordan then warmed up for his 1,000 metre run knowing that he had to put out a great performance to improve on his current seventh place. Despite the horrendous weather conditions he battled it out and came in third place just five seconds behind the leader. When the results came out Jordan's combined run and swim performances put him into third place overall and he was presented with his trophy by former British Olympian and 400m hurdles world record holder David Hemery.
