FORMULA BMW UK Championship driver Jordan Williams from Tavistock received an ?Introduction to Formula One? masterclass from 1992 Formula One world champion Nigel Mansell at the recent British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The masterclass, which took place in the BMW Sauber F1 Team Pit Lane Park, is the second in a series of three that championship ambassador Mansell is administering to the young Formula BMW UK Championship drivers. Jordan, who drives for Team Loctite, saw Mansell step into the cockpit of a modern Formula One car for the first time, where he wowed the crowds with his trademark ?donuts? in the turning circle of the 100-metre track. The BMW Sauber F1 Lane Pit Lane Park is a touring theme park designed to allow fans to get close to the stars and cars of Formula One. After being given an introduction to the BMW Sauber F1 Team car, the select group of racing drivers, including Jordan, undertook a series of activities under the watchful eye of Mansell including a pit-stop challenge, race simulator, reaction test and F1 quiz. ?It?s been a very enjoyable day. First the thrill of being in an F1 car again, followed by the opportunity to catch up with the young drivers,? Mansell said. ?BMW is committed to nurturing the next generation and the Pit Lane Park provides a perfect platform to talk through all that is Formula One as they progress their motorsport careers. Who knows, we may well have the next Lewis Hamilton amongst us!? Jordan Williams, 16, said about the day: ?It has been fantastic! The BMW Sauber F1 Team Pit Lane Park is a great place to get behind the scenes of motorsport. It?s always helpful to receive any advice, but coming from a former Formula One world champion and hearing stories about the things he?s been through, makes it even more inspiring.? Over the weekend the BMW Sauber F1 Team car was also driven by 1995 British Grand Prix winner, Johnny Herbert, and BMW Sauber F1 Team driver, Sebastian Vettel. Ten races into their eighteen-race season, there is still everything to play for in the 2007 Formula BMW UK Championship, with eight points between the top three positions. The championship heads to Donington Park this weekend for Rounds 11 and 12 of the Formula BMW UK Championship.
