OKEHAMPTON travelled to Plymouth at the weekend for their league hockey fixture, aiming to maintain their top of the league position.

Neither team were able to gain much advantage in the early stages, but as the half progressed, Okehampton began to string their passes together and threaten the Plymouth goal. Ted Lane was unlucky not to score when he sent the ball past the upright.

Early in the second half Okehampton took the lead when Mark Parsons slipped the ball back to Richard Jones to flick into the Plymouth goal.

This produced an immediate response from Plymouth, who forced an equaliser.

This sparked Plymouth on and they continued to pressurise the Okehampton goal and with fewer than two minutes to go they took the lead.

As time ran out John Cross burst down the wing and crossed the ball, forcing a penalty corner which gave Okehampton a glimmer of hope. The Plymouth keeper saved the first shot, but the rebound came to Jones, who drilled the ball back towards goal — it deflected off a defender to equalise the scores and share the points.

This week Okehampton are at home at 1pm on the college pitch when they play PGSOBs.
