INDIVIDUALS and families with a passion for pedalling can get on their bikes and join a guided ride with a qualified cycle instructor this weekend.

The Tavistock Guided Leisure Ride sets off from Meadowlands car park and takes riders for a 13-mile journey on quiet and traffic-free routes, for around two hours.

Keen cyclist Eric Pinch took part in the last Tavistock Guided Leisure Ride: 'I arrived at Meadowlands to be greeted by at least 20 cyclists of various ages. It was a very leisurely ride that took us up Down Road, to the golf club, Warrens Cross, Fullamoor, Grenofen, Woodtown, Brook Lane and along the cycle route across Crowndale, the college and returned to Meadowlands.

'I found the ride a comfortable experience — it was all about getting people out on their cycles.'

The next ride takes place this Saturday (August 28) at 3pm. People who wish to participate do not need to book, just turn up on the day.

Bike hire is available free of charge, but must be booked in advance. Take appropriate clothing and a snack if required. There will be an opportunity to stop for refreshments along the route. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
