THE Tavistock Star Trekkers midnight walk is back — but organisers are appealing for more people to join their event to raise money in the fight against cancer. A group of Tavistock women, known as the Tavistock Star Trekkers, last year decided they wanted to stage their own event in Tavistock to correspond with the Moonwalk in London, which also raises money for cancer care. This year's 14-mile walk takes place this Saturday, May 19 and costs £12 per person, with the organisers asking each walker to raise at least £20 in sponsorship money. The walkers will set off from the Morrison's store at midnight and follow a route taking in Horrabridge, Dousland and Yelverton. A total of 339 women took part in the 2006 walk around Tavistock and managed to help raise £36,000 for the Breast Cancer Unit and the Oncology Unit at Derriford. If anyone would like to join the walk, or would like an application form, contact either Pam Thurgood on 01822 615323 or Bev on 07974616627. Application forms can also be collected from the Times office.
