THE Tavistock Specials are appealing to families with special needs children and adults to try and recruit more players and members.
The group is now in its third year and started through Tavistock Youth Cafe Plus and has been a huge success with life changing experiences for all who have been involved.
Founder member Allen Lewis said: 'Its not just about football but friendship, confidence building and a bit of normality for those who join and we have a lot of fun too! We have trained coaches with a passion to improve the group and the standard of football.
'We have excellent equipment which is down to our main sponsor Tim Schmid from Tavistock Tyres and also help and support from Aiming High for Disabled Children who support us 100%. The Son-Rise Cup Football Festival well and truly got disability football on the map this year and has sparked strong support from Mansbridge and Balment and businesses in this area such as Tinhay.
'We want to get the younger sides going again as many of the group have moved up to the adult section where we have two teams entered in the Devon Ability Counts Leagues.'
Players can join from 8 upwards and the club hope to get more help from local schools to promote their cause. Training night is Fridays from 6-7pm. on the Tavistock Community Sports Centres. For more details please call Allen Lewis on 01822 614335 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
