PEOPLE who like a challenge and are interested in making new friends and meeting the public are being invited to join the National Trust's volunteer team at Castle Drogo near Drewsteignton.
Last year the castle celebrated its 25th anniversary with the National Trust and is expecting visitor numbers to continue increasing to in excess of 111,000.
Volunteer co-ordinator Kate Swetman said: 'This season we have an action packed schedule of over 150 events at the property, ranging from a medieval fete and 1920s weekend to treasure hunts and storytelling.
'We would like to hear from anyone who is interested in joining our team of friendly, enthusiastic room stewards who welcome visitors, advise them about the Castle's history and help to ensure they get the most out of their visit to this fascinating and unique property.'
Stewards usually help out one day per week or fortnight and Drogo is especially keen to hear from people with time to spare on Saturdays or Sundays. If you are interested but unable to make a regular commitment, staff are also trying to draw up a list of volunteers for holiday and sickness cover.
Volunteers meet new people and learn new skills as well as contribute to the work of a charity. It is a great opportunity to help out at the last castle built in England and one of the most remarkable works of architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.
Travel expenses are paid and after a qualifying period free entry to the National Trust properties and shop discounts are also available.
Anyone interested in volunteer work should call Kate Swetman on 01647 433306.
