TWENTY beginners turned up last Tuesday to have a go at jogging with Tavistock Athletics Club.

The club, which already runs two successful jogging groups, is committed to helping newcomers take up this increasingly popular sport.

The beginners were given a gentle introduction with easy warm-up exercises and plenty of rests. Progress will be gradual at first, but by the end of the summer most will be able to run continuously for a full 20 minutes.

All abilities are catered for. Some of the better runners will quickly move up to the more experienced groups while the less fit can progress at their own pace with people of similar fitness levels.

There are plenty of opportunities for the more ambitious jogger. Twelve of the club?s joggers completed the Bideford Half-Marathon recently, and two of them went on to finish the London Marathon.

The less ambitious can simply enjoy getting fitter in the company of like minded people.

If you have not joined the joggers yet but would like to give it a try it is not too late to start. Turn up at Tavistock College by 6.20pm on Tuesday and you will be welcome.
