'JAZZ' the toy terrier from Thorndon Cross has done it again — she is Crufts best of breed winner for the second year running.

Her owner Mary Wilson has dominated the class in the last five years having won the title on four occasions with two different animals.

'I am really pleased particularly as Jazz is a bitch we have bred ourselves,' she said.

Mrs Wilson, who is chairman of the Okehampton K9 Society and the force behind the Okehampton dog shows, has been exhibiting dogs for 40 years and travels all over the country.

'I have been going to Crufts for a long time and have had wins with toy poodles in the past but nothing as big as this,' she said.

'On competition points this year, out of 139 breeds, Jazz is running 16th in the country and 4th in the Toy group which is very good.'

The toy terrier is one of the oldest English breeds who were originally bred for ratting.

But at Crufts today the toy terrier is a minority breed and for that reason Mrs Wilson does not expect to ever win the ultimate best in show prize.

'Everybody's ambition is to win best in show but I would settle for top in the Toy group,' she said.
