A TALENTED musician dubbed the new voice of the clarinet will be performing at the Ordulph Arms, Tavistock on Friday, January 16.
Julian Marc Stringle has been described as a child prodigy reed player and made his TV debut at the age of 15.
Just two years later he had formed a jazz quintet and was touring Europe.
Having played in concerts, clubs and festivals alongside many leading national and international jazz players he is currently a member of Digby Fairweather?s band, and leads his own Latin-influenced group.
As well as playing alto and tenor sax he is also a writer and arranger ? and sometimes sings ? but the clarinet is his passion. John Dankworth says ?Julian is probably the best clarinettist to emerge in British jazz for several decades.
?His playing has ?world class? written all over it?.
Julian?s album ?Pathfinder? features John Parricelli, while ?Blues for the morning after? promotes his own Dream Band.
Not easy to pigeonhole, he delivers a plain old-fashioned mainstream swing with eager verve and immense technical assurance.
He has a pearly tone even at the extremes of the instrument?s range.
Julian appeals to both a younger audience and the jazz aficionados.
For his visit to the Ordulph Arms, Julian will be supported by a trio ? with whom he already has an excellent rapport ? led by the versatile pianist Craig Milverton, with the experienced Mike Thorne on bass and the swinging young drummer Sam Brown.
