A YOUNG woman from Tavistock is preparing to shave off her long locks in a bid to raise £1,000 for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Jayde Bassett, 25, made the pledge during a recent virtual Friday night evening ‘out’ with friends.
‘It was on a Zoom call on a Friday night with my friends,’ she said. ‘We all get together on there and have a drink and sometimes have a little quiz or play a game. It was Sarah, one of my friends, who suggested I shave it off my hair. She said “oh go on!”. I woke up on the Saturday morning and thought I’ll have to go through with it! My dad straight away said he would sponsor me, he was the first person.
‘My aim is to raise £1,000, which sounds a lot with everything going on at the moment but I hope people will support me. When I told my husband he was a bit apprehensive but he agreed there was a more important element to this than how I’m going to look.’
Jayde is raising money in support of her colleague Jean Keast, a passionate fundraiser for charity Pancreatic Cancer UK.
‘Pancreatic cancer has a survival rate of just 4%,’ said Jade. ‘Styling your hair is very much part of your look and confidence but at the end of the day my hair is going to grow back. People who have pancreatic cancer won’t necessarily survive. If it takes a headshave to help, that is what I am going to do.’
