BY his own admission James Ruth?s performance in the English Amateur Championship at Alwoodley Golf Club, Leeds, was disappointing, when he lost in the third round.

At this level there is no respite and within the week James was representing his country in the England boys? team for the Home Internationals at Royal St David?s, Harlech.

They demolished Scotland 13-1, drew with Wales and on the last day edged home against Ireland by 8 to 6 to win for the sixth year in succession.

In an almost flawless display of golf James was awarded the ?England Boys? Player of the Home Internationals? trophy after winning all his three singles, and two wins and a half in the pairs.

Back home the result of the medal and John Morris Trophy was as follows - Division 1: 1, H D J Nuttall, 67 nett; 2, S Young, 68; 3, M Congdon, 70. Division 2: 1, D Lowe, 63 nett; M J Greening, 67; 3, D E Greening, 67. Division 3: 1, M J Western, 70 nett; 2, D Spray, 74; 3, B Green, 74.
