Crediton U11s 14
Okehampton/North Tawton U11s 19
IN cold damp conditions the boys found the slippery ball difficult to handle.
The opening period saw the North/Okes scrum looking solid with Brad winning good ball for scrum half Mike Heard. In his first game for the U11s Thomas White worked hard in the rucks and mauls, and was well supported by Chris, Jeb and Tom. Many of the North/Okes attacks were stopped by good defence from Credtion.
Peter Gillard opened the scoring by touching down after a kick ahead, with Jordan Lee converting. Poor defending allowed Credtion to score two tries.
North/Okes levelled the score by half-time when Jordan Lee touched down, and he converted.
In an evenly contested second half the deadlock was finally broken when James Speak took a quick tap penalty to score.
Crediton U12s 19
North/Okes U12s 21
THIS was a very close game between two evenly matched sides at Lords Meadow.
North/Okes were slow off the mark, and some poor defence led to Crediton opening the scoring with a try down the blind side. The conversion was missed.
North/Okes began to assert their authority. Darcy Heard made a break down the blind side of a scrum, stepped inside the winger to score in the corner. Andrew North added the conversion.
Crediton came back at North/Okes again, and were awarded a dubious try which was converted. North/Okes hit back with a try when Robert Stepto forced his way over, again converted by North.
Sam Robertson also forced her way over, only for the ref to disallow it due to being unsighted, leaving the score at 12-14 at the interval.
The second half saw the visitors raise their game, but due to handling errors in the slippery conditions, turned the ball over too often. Some North/Okes indiscipline in the rucks led to a penalty, which Crediton took quickly, scoring a converted try.
The last five minutes saw the combined team play their best rugby. Needing a converted try to win they attacked the home team?s line. From a scrum James Ewen broke down the blind side, fed out to North who brushed aside a couple defenders to score a try, levelling the score.
North stepped up to take the conversion to seal the victory.
This week training at Okehampton Rugby Club 6pm Friday, Sunday away to Barnstaple.
