THE Jackson Vending Devon and Exeter Football League is set to continue until the end of the season.
At a meeting of the executive committee on Monday the league decided that in fairness to the many clubs who wanted to continue, they will 'play on'.
League chairman Roger Spray endorsed the executive's recent decision to abandon all league cup competitions, and reported they had already considered this option before the foot and mouth crisis broke out, as a way of completing the season.
However from April 1, league matches which are postponed either because of the foot and mouth crisis, or the weather, or for any other reason apart from 'extraordinary' circumstances, will not be re-arranged.
League chairman Roger Spray said the league had to take this unprecendented step because there was simply no way fixtures secretary Pat Leisk would be able to squeeze these games in.
The league recognised that some teams, especially in foot and mouth-affected areas, may not even play again this season, but a formula had to be reached that was fair to all.
Clubs who call off games because they cannot raise a side, or for other such reasons are still subject to penalty by the league, but likewise the match will not be re-arranged.
The league has also decided to review the promotion and relegation of clubs at the end of the season, after they see the final picture.
