TAVISTOCK Pannier Market is to play host to two huge birthday parties this year, in commemoration of the 900th anniversary of the granting of the town?s market charter. A celebration for senior citizens and for youngsters is being planned, both guaranteed to be an event to remember ? and each party will be free, thanks to the generous support of pannier market traders and local businesses. Mike Souttar, deputy market reeve, is organising the two parties. The first one, for senior citizens, disabled people and their carers, will be held on Sunday July 31. The second one, for children, will be held on Sunday October 30. Mike said: ?We?re doing them on these specific dates because we have charity events on the previous days, so the inside part of the market will be free ? plus the fact the October one coincides gloriously with Hallow?een for the youngsters.? The July party will take the form of an afternoon tea dance, with a splendid cream tea to enjoy, plus lots of other delicious goodies. Mike said Peter Clement of Tavistock Musical Theatre Company had agreed to put on a small show and there will be music so party-goers can take a twirl on the floor. ?We?re going to have a big raffle with prizes donated by all the traders ? everyone?s entry ticket will enter them into the raffle,? said Mike, who hoped the town council would also consider supporting the celebratory community party. ?I hope everyone will enjoy what should be a super event in what is a very special year for Tavistock,? he said. Tickets for the market charter birthday tea dance will be available from Mike at the pannier market office in Tavistock from July 5. Arrangements for the children?s party on October 30 will be announced in the coming weeks ? anyone who would like more information should call Mike Souttar on 01822 611003.
