A FUN sports day will be hosted by the Puzzle Tree in Okehampton next week.
The sports day on Monday, June 24 is the third annual event organised by Puzzle Tree for people with learning disabilities.
The fun day is free to attend, and includes a variety of sports to encourage people to try new activities, as well as those they already enjoy.
Sports include boccia, badminton, volleyball, short tennis, seated exercise, velcro targets, dance, fencing, Tai Chi, croquet, table tennis, exercise machines, basketball, parachute games, football and frisbee throwing.
All the games are achievable for people who are wheelchair-dependent. Research last year showed that participation in sports by people with disabilities is on the decline.
Cllr Stuart Barker, Devon County Council's cabinet member with responsibility for adult social care said: 'Our fun days are always popular, and they present a great opportunity for people to come and try new sports, or enjoy already familiar ones.
'Physical exercise is not only good for body and mind, but also for building one's self-confidence. And it can be a very enjoyable way of meeting people socially.'
The day runs from 10am to 4pm. For more details call Puzzle Tree on 01837 659796.
