A GOOD fun day was had by all at the Okehampton Rotary Club's rescheduled May Fair on Sunday in Simmons Park and a bumper £1,500 raised for local charities.
The event was postponed from May because of the foot and mouth crisis and was one of the first to be held in Simmons Park since the crisis began.
Thanks to lots of lobbying outside Somerfield in the weeks leading up the fair, club members sold 1,500 ducks for the duck races which always prove popular.
Other activities included clay pigeon shooting, a skittle alley, charity stalls and car boot sales.
The fair was opened by Okehampton Mayor Christine Marsh and despite the drizzle it was well attended.
Club president Russ Thomas said half the funds would go to the new Okehampton Hospital Appeal and half to other Rotary charities.
'It was a fun day which raised money for the community and got people together after the foot and mouth crisis,' he said.
