East Cornwall Palladium League division one Bere Alston United 5 St Columb Major 0 ANOTHER five goals, another clean sheet and most importantly another three points as Bere Alston keep pressure on the top two on a day when all the sides in contention for the title won. This victory saw Bere hit five for the third consecutive game and defensively it's only one goal conceded in the last seven and a half hours. Bere manager Kevin Taylor had warned his side about complacency having won the reverse fixture the previous week 5-1, but he couldn't have hoped for a more explosive start as Bere took the lead within ten seconds. Straight from the kick off Darren Smalley played in Will Westlake down the left and his driven cross was deflected into his own goal by the St Columb left back. St Columb then had a period of sustained pressure, albeit without success as Bere keeper Craig Howells and his defence held firm and St Columb were left cursing their failure to equalise as Will Westlake made it 2-0 to Bere before the break with a fine header from a Zac Beesley corner. Bere's third came two minutes into the second half as Mark Wheeler's defence splitting pass sent Zac Beesley racing clear before applying a cool finish. James Crawford added a fourth from close range after good work down the left by Dan Follett and Will Westlake completed the scoring with his second and Bere's fifth after playing a quick one two with Zac Beesley and then rounding the St Columb keeper to slip the ball onto an empty net. Man of the match: Will Westlake. l This Saturday Bere Alston entertain Polperro at home, kick off 2.30pm.
