BERE Ferrers teenager Sam Cutts is celebrating a fantastic August ? not only has she just represented her country at the Junior European Eventing Championships in the Czech Republic, she has also achieved an astonishing six grade A passes at A-level.
Sam, who is 18, is one of Britain?s top junior three-day eventers and finished 27th overall out of 67 in the championships at Pardubice earlier this month. She came second in the British team that competed, after being given the nod by the selectors to ride for Britain on her horse Piccola Star.
Sam rode two clear rounds in the cross country and showjumping events but dropped points in the dressage, after Piccola Star made a slight error.
But the selectors were impressed with her performance overall, saying she showed ?great potential for the future?.
Sam said: ?I?m delighted with my performance. It was a great experience and I?m now hoping to put it to good use in future championships?.
And last week, Sam received the good news that she has obtained six A-levels ? all at A grade. Her success means she will be able to follow her ambition of studying veterinary science at Cambridge University, for which she required three
A-grades.
In the meantime, she intends to take a gap year, during which she will brush up her dressage skills in Germany, plus working with a trainer in North Devon to improve her showjumping.
Sam said her long-term ambitions are to compete at Badminton in 2005, qualify as a vet and ride with the British senior eventing team in the 2012 Olympic Games.
