A WEST Devon policeman had a close shave after being chased down the A30 dual carriageway by an angry bull. Motor Constable Steve Thomson was caught on a patrol car camera being eyed up by the beefy animal before it set off after him. The officer managed to sprint to one side of the emergency vehicle while his pursuer ran off to the other side. The drama was captured on video (below). It happened on Sunday morning when police were called out to Whiddon Down because the bullock was running free on the busy A30. A police spokesman said: ?As the bullock was causing a real danger to motorists and officers, the road was closed on both the east and west bound carriageways. A vet was brought in to attempt to sedate the animal. ?The vet could not get close enough to the bullock to sedate it and one of our officers got out of his vehicle to shout to a motorist to keep going and not to stop. The bull also stopped and in a split second he turned and chased after the constable. ?He managed to run to one side of the patrol car which was videoing what had happened while the bull went to the other side. ?As the animal could not be safely contained the decision was made after more than two hours for two police marksmen to shoot it. ?There were large tailbacks in both directions due to the incident but no person was harmed.?
