Tavistock 1st XI v Chudleigh 1st XI

TAVISTOCK made the trip to high-flying Chudleigh, who in recent weeks have been beating the best in the league.

Dave Manning, the Tavistock skipper, won the toss and put the home team in to bat on a fast, true wicket.

Tavistock were soon on top with first Roesstorff and then Nicholson removing Smith and then the dangerous White for three and one run respectively.

Roesstorff put in his best bowling performance for the club, ending up with figures of 5 for 38.

Chudleigh at one stage were reeling at 61 for 6, but recovered with some class batting by Solway and unorthodox hitting by Ellis.

The Chudleigh innings ended with Gauler taking the final wicket at 187 all out.

The Tavistock reply started disastrously with Luffman, McGahey and Searle all out cheaply. Mortimore and Manning steadied the ship, then began building a match-winning partnership of 141.

Manning fell just short of a well deserved 100, but Mortimore remained to the end, hitting the match-winning runs and giving Tavistock a comfortable five wicket victory.

This week the first eleven are at home entertaining Clyst St George, a must win match for the Moorlanders as they chase a quick return to A division cricket.
