A WEST Devon family set off on a 25,000km journey of adventure to Cape Town, South Africa last Sunday. The Croftons, from Spreyton, have embarked upon a similar-style journey to the one which film stars Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman completed for 'The Long Way Down' TV series in 2007. The family are Nigel Crofton, 43, his wife Kate, 42, and their two sons Angus, nine, who is a pupil at Mount House School, and Guy, who is almost seven, a pupil at Chagford Primary School. The seven month journey has been a dream of Nigel and Kate's for five years. They first got a taste for adventure when they were safari guides in Botswana. When they settled down and had their sons, their taste for adventure never left them and they have always known they would take Angus and Guy on a journey they would never forget. Nigel, who has been planning this journey since 2003 with Kate, said: 'We are looking forward to it and the boys are very excited. 'Angus is going to miss his friends at Mount House but he is looking forward to the journey. 'The journey is a similar thing to the Long Way Down, as we are driving through 19 countries to Cape Town in South Africa and then we are flying back.' The Croftons have been sponsored a winch by Superwinch, based in Tavistock, to help their vehicle if it gets stuck in any difficult terrain, and Footloose 4x4, a vehicle company based in Peterborough, has kitted out the vehicle with necessities for the challenging journey.
