THE 13th proved a luckier day than most for a member of Tavistock Golf Club recently, when he hit an amazing two holes in one during the same round.

Christopher Higgins, who lives in Southway, took his incredible shots while playing a foursome in January — he was this week presented with a year's supply of Titleist balls in recognition of his double achievement.

The golfer, who plays off a handicap of 12, said he had never dreamt of playing two such good shots.

'You are always trying every time to get one — it's just luck really,' he said modestly.

'I couldn't see the first one, it was a blind shot, but when I saw it I started shouting "It's in the hole!"

'On the sixth we all saw it go in and we were all shouting!'

Christopher's double hole-in-one topped off a memorable weekend of golf — the previous day he hit three twos in competition.

The two lucky golf balls have now been mounted on a special trophy made by fellow club member Martin Harris.

Christopher has been playing golf for more than 15 years at Tavistock. Although hitting the hole in one twice is a highlight of his golfing career so far, it proved costly at the 19th hole.

'It was Sunday lunchtime — and very busy!' said Christopher.

Club captain Brian Williams said it was 'very, very, very unusual' to hit two holes in one during the same round.

'I've never heard of it before,' he said.
