I AM writing to recommend the exhibition celebrating the digging of the Tavistock Canal 200 years ago. I found it full of interest and because it has been professionally presented and is well lit it was a pleasure to look around.
It is being held literally over the canal in the Guides? headquarters at the entrance to the Bedford car park.
The exhibition covers all aspects of the canal?s history right up to its present uses including the generation of
electricity and the inclusion of part of the towpath in the national Sustrans cycle routes.
The life of John Taylor who gave his name to Taylor Square and spearheaded the digging of the canal is also celebrated.
It is open for the whole of August and is free.
