THERE?S no better place to head than the local library for a spot of summer fun in the school holidays.

Library staff in Okehampton and Tavistock are putting on a host of activities and events to encourage children?s creativity over the long summer break.

Both libraries are running a special summer reading challenge, ?The Reading Rollercoaster?, to help children maintain their reading skills while school?s out.

Children?s librarian Paula Mardo said: ?The Reading Rollercoaster is designed to keep children hooked on books throughout the holidays.?

Children will receive a special folder to record their favourite books throughout the summer and each time they visit the library they will recieve a set of stickers.

Everyone who completes the challenge and collects all six sets of stickers will receive a special certificate and model celebrating their achievement.

In addition to this, Okehampton Library is holding a prize draw for children aged three to 16 who are not yet members of the library service ?joining at Okehampton between July 19 and September 4 will guarantee new members a chance to win an annual ticket for Crealy Adventure Park.

Tavistock Library is holding a number of events for under and over fives.

These include a making faces activity session, creating a ghost train, clowning around and playing at hoopla.

For more information about any of the activities contact Tavistock Library on 01822 612218.

Reading Rollercoaster packs can be collected from the libraries from Monday July 26.
