BATS A team finished off 2002 with a match against Derriford in division 3 of the Plymouth and District Badminton League.

Going into the match the BATS team were bolstered with the return of James Cooper from university.

In the first men?s doubles James Cooper and David Harrington took the rubber comfortably in two games 15-5, 15-5.

The second rubber saw James Cooper and Alan Berry demoralise the Derriford pair when they won 25 unanswered points in beating them 15-6, 15-0.

The third rubber saw David Harrington and Alan Berry continue the good start with an easy 15-4, 15-3 win.

In the ladies? doubles rubbers Susie Povey and Frances Ward got off to the best possible start by taking the rubber 15-5, 15-10. Susie Povey and Lizzie Rae continued the good start in the second rubber when they won easily 15-3, 15-7. The third rubber went again the way of the BATS pair when Frances Ward and Lizzie Rae won 15-6, 15-10.

After the ladies? and men?s doubles rubbers the BATS team were starting to realise they had a special scoresheet in front of them which showed they had played six rubbers and won all six in two games. The pressure was now on to complete the evening with the three mixed doubles rubbers.

With James Cooper back from university it was decided to keep the regular pairs together and promote Lizzie Rae to play with James in the number one position. Lizzie rose to the occasion and proceeded to support James to take the first mixed doubles rubber 15-1, 15-3.

The second mixed doubles rubber saw David Harrington and Susie Povey take on the challenge of continuing the perfect scores by taking the rubber 15-0, 15-5.

With just one rubber to play Alan Berry and Frances Ward needed to win to make the evening a perfect one for BATS. The first game went well with a 15-2 win but it took them time to settle in the second. They eventually did so and went on to take it and the rubber 15-8.

At the end of the evening the BATS A team came away from the match very satisfied with their work.

Not only had they won the match against Derriford 9-0 but they had achieved it without dropping a game all evening.
