MY wife and I have recently moved to Tavistock and were attracted by the various markets and special events throughout the year. Having read the history of Goose Fair, to say that we were disappointed is an understatement; the events of Wednesday did not appear to have any relevance to the origins of the fair. It was difficult to believe that the main car park was closed for a whole week just to house a fun fair. Apart from Wednesday, the town itself was noticeably quieter than usual and I would assume this would be reflected in the turnover of the shops. Surely, the council should seriously address the feasibility of continuing with the Goose Fair as the only thing it seemed to bring to the town was the five tons of rubbish that was cleared up overnight on the Wednesday.
