Bodmin 3
Tavistock 1
TAVISTOCK Hockey Club men?s first team knew this would be a tough fixture as regular keeper Bradley and sweeper Lethbridge were unavailable.
From the start the youth of Bodmin was evident which gave the legs of Barrett a full stretch. Tavistock dominated for periods with sustained pressure on the Bodmin goal, captain Aveyard linking with Honey and Bellard to forge deep into Bodmin?s half.
It seemed this was not to be Tavistock?s day as Andrews drew the best reaction save from the Bodmin keeper and Lovett was denied by the metalwork.
Bodmin were swiftly overloading the Tavistock defence, leaving the novice sweeper Edwards stranded and Osborne in goal with no chance as two of the Bodmin attack neatly finished an against the run of play attack to lead 1-0.
Tavistock again took the game to Bodmin, creating good chances from short corners but unable to convert, only to see Bodmin take an opportunity to strike from the top of the D to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
A change in Tavistock tactics at half-time showed the value of Costello who continually frustrated the Bodmin attack at the back. A somewhat scrappy period of play led to Osborne being tested again only to find Cowan to have been judged to have infringed play. A penalty flick was awarded and duly converted. This gave Bodmin a seemingly untouchable 3-0 scoreline.
Tavistock continued to play, Hess working hard creating space and enabling Honey to supply Andrews at the top of the Bodmin D for a reverse stick shot giving Tavistock the well earned consolation goal.
This week Tavistock 1st XI will be at home (Kelly College) for a 4.30 start against OPMs.
