TAVISTOCK Athletic Club recently made their debut in the Devon League meeting for the 2001 season, at Braunton in cold and blustery weather.
But this did not deter the 23 youngsters and one senior from carrying on where they left off in the indoor season. Most moved up an age group, but this did not phase them and they turned in some great performances.
The U10 girls had Sarah Lucas gain a first and second place in her events, ably supported by Laura Aspen with two third places.
The U10 boys had Jake Rendle and Nathan Wonnacott gain six top four places between them and their 600m race was one of the highlights of the day, with Jake just edging Nathan.
The three U11 girls keep on improving, with Sarah Barratt on top form with two firsts and a third, and there were good results from Robynne Honey and Maddie Barrow.
Alex Cuthbert in the U11 boys competed well and had at least one second and one third place.
The U13 girls were strong with Sarah Guy winning the discus, beating Emma Passmore into second. Emma also gained second in the 800m. Kayleigh Wonnacott had two third places, Kathryn Dalton a second, Bethan Shillabeer a third and Sophie Cuthbert a fourth place.
Jimmy Hubbard continues to dominate the long jump and shot putt in his age group, with two firsts. This was backed up with a third in the hurdles. Luke Aspen also did well with fourth and fifth places.
Zoë Stock in the U15 girls' discus gained second place, which was quite outstanding as she had never thrown one in competition before.
The U15 boys saw an unwell Paul Rowe take part in the long jump and gain third place, this left training partner Adam Tofield to step up to the mark and gain second places in the 200m and 800m.
The relays saw the U11 and U13 girls win in convincing style and the U13 boys come in third.
