TWO young Callington Colts teams can be forgiven for not concentrating on finishing the season in the next couple of weeks as they prepare for a prestigious youth football tournament in Brittany.
Callington Colts U11s and U13s will not be enjoying the Royal Wedding on Friday, April 29, as they will be on route to their twin town of Guipavas in France who will be hosting their 33rd international 'Challenge du Printemps' youth tournament. Callington have attended now for 25 years and this year they will be up against the youth set ups of Premiership side Fulham, Dutch outfit Sparta Rotterdam, Belgian giants Standard Liege, Swiss side Servette Geneve and a Japanese select team.
They will be joined by teams from Slovakia, The Czech Republic, Romania and a host of French first and second division teams. Finally, dozens of youth sides from Brittany, including host club GDR Guipavas.
On Saturday morning the team will take part in the traditional parade through the streets of Guipavas followed by the presentation of flags and the National Anthems in the main stadium before the tournament begins in earnest after lunch. The tournament finishes late on Sunday with the finals in the main stadium.
Following the draw, the U11s face first division side Brest, along with Vannes, Pouzane and Le Releq, and also the hosts Guipavas. The U13s have a tough draw with two first division outfits, Lorient and Brest, Czech side Banik Ostrava, Milizac and local side La Foret Landerneau.
