TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club's midweek fixture against old Plymouthians looked on paper to be an easy task, but when the opposition arrived, they included a current England International in the shape of David Cutler and a good selection of current and ex-county players.

Tavistock won two and lost one one of the three rinks played, with skip Sandy Sanders and his team of George Blackburn, Bernie Downs and Gerald Worth winning 33-16, while skip Roy Northam and his team of Geoff Cork, Ray Meneer and Arthur Worth won 14-13.

Club captain Mike Allen saw his team lose 18-32.

The week started with the first away fixture at Bodmin for a number of years. Tavistock lost the match 102-125 winning on only two of the six rinks played.

Tavistock skip John Smith and his team of Geoff Cork, Catriona Meek and Colin Craven won 21-12 while skip Walter Meek and his squad of Marlene Paramor, Joan Northey and Tony Coombs won 23-13.

Tavistock skips - Mike Allen (14-25), Ron Cooper (14-27), Roy Northam (15-17) and Norman Paramor (15-26) all saw their teams lose.

Tuesday saw the men's section evening league match against Tamar end in a 81-81 draw thanks to skip Mike Allen and his team of Brian Preece, Phil Jury and Rob Bowhay, who had a winning margin of 33-11.

It was big enough to cover the shot deficit on Tavistock's three losing rinks which were skipped by Eric Stephens (17-22), John Smith (14-22) and Bernie Downs )17-26).

Friday's home match against Topsham ended in a 125-121 win for Tavistock thanks to three winning skips.

Mike Allen and his team of Freda Isaac, Albert Townsend and Rob Bowhay won 37-16.

Skip Der Saunders and his team of George Barrand, Catriona Meek and Arthur Worth won 19-17.

Skip Walter Meek and his squad of Vic Doidge, Joan Northey and Sandy Sanders won 27-15. Tavistock skips Stuart Doidge (11-26), John Smith (17-20) and Bernie Downs (14-27) all saw their teams lose.

Saturday's mixed triples home match against Launceston team Dunheved, resulted in a 98-83 win for Tavistock who won two of the three rinks played.

Skip Colin Temaine and his team of Audrey Northam and Ray Meneer won 22-14, while skip Der Saunders and his team of Marlene Paramor and Ernie Piper won 21-15.

Skip Malcolm Bloomer witnessed his team lose 13-19.

The ladies's section played Bere Alston and won 51-46, thanks to skip Gill Saunders and her team of Joan Solly, Anne Doidge and Freda Isaac, who won 18-15.

Skip Yvonne Meneer and her team of Shirley Blackburn, June Watson and Marion Allen won 20-15 while skip Jean Flay saw her team lose 13-17.

Thursday's game against Lee Moor ended in a comprehensive 52-29 victory for the Tavistock ladies with skip Jean Flay and her team of Jenny Aldridge, Anne Doidge and Gill Saunders winning 24-16, while skip Marion Allen led her team of Joan Solly, Joan Northey and Hazel Lovell to a 28-13 victory.

The first of the club's annual competitions reached its conclusion when in the mixed pairs competition, Yvonne Meneer and Arthur Worth beat Rob Bowhay and Jenny Aldridge by one shot to take the title.
