AN international menu and a rapturous welcome met ?Bob Marley? and ?Elvis Presley? when they called in at Bratton Clovelly Parish Hall recently to help fundraise for Devon Aid-Korogwe. The charity, which raises funds to provide safe drinking water for villages in Tanzania, served up a supper of food and drink from around the world, raising the fantastic total of £1,780. Also attending the event were ?Dame Edna?, ?Rolf Harris? and ?Steve Irwin?, all of whom were interviewed by Bruce Smiley. Local belly dancers, songs and recitations kept the gathering well entertained. Promoting the best of local farm products, as well as the ?Little Red Tractor?, Devon Aid-Korogwe offered the diners a variety of dishes from around the world, through Europe and on to several exotic destinations, ending back in Devon and Cornwall to sample some of the world?s best cheeses. The charity helps to provide safe water to villagers in the Korogwe district, Tanzania. There are many more villages in the area needing a supply of safe water. At the moment they are often using contaminated water and if riverwater is used they run the risk of attack by crocodiles. The charity has just given the go ahead for wells to be dug in four more villages. Trustees are hoping to have them almost completed before Christmas and thank everyone who made their fun night so successful. Local produce was supplied by Burts Chips, Curworthy Cheese, Common Loaf Bakery, Davidstow Cheese, Down St Mary Vineyard, Dunn Brothers Dairy, Eversfield Manor Organics, Friends Quality Beef and Lamb, Greenfields Bratton Clovelly, Haldon Woods Farm, Hall Manor Spring Water, Leigh Farm Poultry, Lloyd Maunder, Mill Leat Fishery, Oakcroft Free Range, Peninsula Milk, Philip Warren and Son, Quickes Traditional Ltd, SVS Coffee, Taw Valley Creamery, the Vegetable Garden, Turton Meats and Westlake Orchards.
