FOR the first time, all West Devon residents, regardless of income, are being offered free cavity wall and loft insulation, as part of an energy incentive by West Devon Borough Council.
Working in partnership with South West-based energy conservation specialists, Enact Energy, the council aims to help people save money on their energy bills and have warmer, more comfortable homes.
Free cavity wall and loft insulation is available subject to a free home assessment but excludes social housing tenants.
People on qualifying benefits could also be eligible for up to £200 cash back, as part of the scheme.
Cllr Robert Oxborough, the council's chairman of the community services committee said: 'With everyone on a tight budget, I am hoping this partnership scheme will help people save money and stay warm. Installing insulation is one of the quickest and easiest ways to keep down the cost of your fuel bills so this scheme could make a huge difference to households across West Devon.'
According to the Energy Saving Trust, someone living in a gas-heated, three bedroom, semi-detached house with loft and cavity wall insulation installed, could save up to £310 per year.
Homes across West Devon are being sent letters telling them about the council's 'Enact Energy' scheme from August 20, 2012.
The offer is available until September 30 2012.
