THE tetrathlon and triathlon teams put in fantastic performances at the Devon Games to Inspire, showing strength in depth for the West Devon team.

For the first time, concept2 rowing was included in the competition. School years 7 and 8 and 9 and 10 took on rowing, swimming, cycling and running. School years 5 and 6 took on swimming, cycling and running.

Having had just four weeks' rowing experience, West Devon's rowers showed great spirit and determination with Hollie Brimble and Rhys Merriott pushing well past their personal best times. The team showed their strength in the swimming discipline with Jordan Channon and Will Carter gaining valuable time for their overall positions. The static cycles event included some great times put in by all the athletes and sheer determination over 3000m from Nathaniel Rookes and Kameron Brimble.

The overall times from the rows, swims and cycles were then added together to determine a staggered start in the final event, the run.

Emily Ackford and Emily Attfield were first to compete and both secured top ten positions to put them in with a great chance of a team medal if the boys in years 5 and 6 did well. Ryan Helcoop and Jordan Channon did fantastically to secure the gold medals for the yrs 5 and 6. Jordan showed great running strength to hold off and eventually run away with first place in the run and an individual winner's gold medal.

In years 7 and 8 Hannah Greep and Kate Marks both had great runs to secure them good overall places, and Rhys Merriott and Will Carter continued the West Devon successes with good team places and an individual bronze for Will.

Finally years 9 and 10 took on the run with great performances from Hollie Brimble, Amy Marks and Kameron Brimble and to complete the team, a fantastic first place and individual gold for Nathaniel Rookes.

The team spirit and great sporting performances were a joy for  coaches and team managers Paul Chinn, Karen Channon and Chloe Greep.
