A VERDICT of suicide was last week recorded on a Tavistock man found dead at his home just after Christmas last year.
Coroner Dr Elizabeth Earland told the inquest at Tavistock Court that Michael Partington, of Rocky Hill, had struggled with severe depression following the break-up of his marriage.
The consultant treating Mr Partington for his illness told the court he was a ?marvellous father ? a kind and good man who always put other people first.?
The court heard heard police went to Mr Partington?s home following a call from his estranged wife. A note, empty tablet packets and an empty bottle of wine were found.
Despite efforts by police and ambulance personnel, attempts to resuscitate Mr Partington failed.
Recording her verdict, Dr Earland said: ?This is a tragic loss, would that it could have been prevented. I extend my sympathies to you all.?

The inquest heard that Amy Bull, 20, was found at her home in Beadle Court, Tavistock, by her mother during the evening of January 21 this year ? attempts to rescuscitate the young woman failed.
Coroner Dr Elizabeth Earland said a quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia were taken from the property by police.
She said a post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death as drug toxicity and extended her ?deep sympathy? to Miss Bull?s family.
