INFORMATION on rubbish collections and email responses are two areas in which West Devon Borough Council excel, according to a recent Society of Information Technology Management (SOCITM) review.

The annual review, Better Connected 2010, looked at local authority websites nationally, and credited the borough council with two special mentions as examples of good practice.

First to be mentioned was the section for providing information on rubbish collection services. West Devon was one of only 16 councils across the country rated 'very good' for the way in which it displays this information on its website.

The authority achieved another 'very good' rating for their response to emails, being one of the 20 fastest councils to provide a full response to a mystery shopper enquiry.

Mayor of West Devon Cllr Alison Clish-Green said: 'As one of the smallest councils in the country, this is a significant achievement for West Devon. The website is a very important part of information provision and it's good to know how the service is rated.'

The council's website receives about 9,000 visitors every month, and serves up around 75,000 pages of information.
