HURDWICK Golf Club held their monthly medal on September 7 and the competition was dedicated to the memory of Bill Bower. Bill was a founder member of the club and died just before his 80th birthday earlier this year.
He was very popular among all age groups and made great efforts to help and encourage both new and young players. Club members held a collection to purchase a cup, which will be played for on an annual basis.
The first year's winner was Martin Stevens, who produced a round to match the occasion and finished with a magnificent net 61.
Division One was won by Neil Tamblin with a net 67; second Tony Morris 68, followed by Tim Gale, 69.
In Division Two, Martin Stevens left the rest of the field trailing in his wake. Second was Ray Spear with 71 and John Rea third with 72.
The Ladies were led home by Sally Arscott with 69, Val Raine second with 73 on back nine over Rosemary Rea, also 73. The winners of the three groups were all presented with a specially engraved tankard to commemorate the first competition for Bill's cup. The Twos sweep was won by John Burrough, Rob Holter and David Murkin.
The midweek stableford was won by Jason Archer, with 39 points, Rob Holter took second place on back nine over Kevin Pugh, both finishing with 36 points. The Twos sweep was won by Jason Archer, Kevin Pugh and Tony Pearson.
Hurdwick member Tony Morris won the Manor Golf Club Men's Open on September 2 with 39 points. Adam Bridgewater became Hurdwick Golf Club's Men's champion for the second year running. Adam represented Hurdwick so well with a top ten finish in the Champion of Champions 2002 national final.
