THERE is a chance to enjoy the colours and splendour of Dartmoor?s changing scenery this month with a number of guided walks in West Devon. Walks have been put on at Lydford Gorge, Teign Valley, below Castle Drogo, Holne Woods and Plymbridge Woods. Next Wednesday (October 10), between 2pm and 4pm, participants can enjoy the autumnal colours of oak woodland at Holne Woods near Holne on an ?Autumn Walk in the Woods?. Walkers are welcome to bring along a camera to capture the colours of oak woodland in autumn. Pre-book on 01626 834748. Then on Sunday, October 14 from 11am until 1pm, join Jeff Benn on a two-hour ?Autumn Woodland Walk? to discover the world of fungi at Lydford Gorge. Participants will have the opportunity to walk through parts of the gorge looking for and identifying different kinds of fungi. Pre-book on 01822 820320. Also on Sunday, October 14 walkers can join the wardens in the Teign Valley, below Castle Drogo, on an ?Autumn Woodland Walk? to learn about the veteran trees, woodland management and to look for signs of deer in the rut. Visitors will hopefully see rutting stands, fraying, droppings, tracks and signs of grazing. Pre-book on 01647 433306. Then at Plym Bridge Woods on Thursday, October 18 between 2pm and 4pm walkers can join the wardens for a ?Fungi Foray?. Pre-book on 01752 341377. For all these events the Trust advises participants to wear sturdy footwear and warm clothing.
