OF the 180 jobs Tesco tell us the site will provide, management will be brought in from other stores, existing workers at Crediton and Launceston have the option of transferring to the proposed Okehampton store, and of the remaining posts, the majority will be part time and basic wage.

At peak times they estimate 400 car trips ie, in and out of the site. The poor souls who live in Barton Road, Limehayes and Crediton Road will have this excessive traffic on top of the number of vehicles they already have to endure.

I doubt if the people in Thorndon Cross or North Tawton would be so vociferous in their support if they had this level of traffic. Plus, the overnight delivery lorries beeping as they back into the site in the early hours of the morning will disturb the sleep of local residents.

I agree totally that the town is gridlocked, that's because of historic planning decisions mainly by West Devon and the county. Adding another 400+ cars  at peak times is not helpful! They won't all be coming from the east of the town.

I suggest if people want to see the results of an edge of town superstore, they visit Penzance and walk through the town centre. It's devastated, boarded up businesses, empty shops, For sale signs everywhere. That's what happened when Morrisons moved in. I don't want to see that happen to Okehampton!
