I DO wish readers would read what is written rather than interpret what they think is being said, as is the case with Mr Michael Rice in his reply to my letter about an incident on July 29, when I had an altercation with a cyclist on the pavement in Okehampton. My letter was neither crass (meaning stupid) and it was not unsubstantiated either as it referred to a specific event, and judging from those members of the local community who have spoken to me it is far from an unusual experience to be so confronted, so it would appear that a number do habitually ride irresponsibly. I did not brand all cyclists, I did not denigrate the valiant efforts of those long distance riders who raise money for worthy charitable causes and he knows full well what I had in mind, so if anything was ?crass? it was his reply.
